Club Med South Africa is opening in July 2026 and if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably spent the last few weeks wondering what all the fuss is about.
For years, Club Med holidays have been the kind of trips most South Africans admired from afar. The sort of family getaway that seemed to involve passports, long-haul flights and a serious luggage commitment. Now, for the first time, Club Med is bringing its famous all-inclusive resort experience to our own backyard.
Located on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast, Club Med South Africa promises beachfront accommodation, endless family activities, kids’ clubs, multiple dining experiences and even a safari component. In other words, it sounds like the kind of place where parents can actually relax while the kids are having the time of their lives. Revolutionary, I know.
As a family travel creator, I was curious to find out what families can expect, what makes Club Med different from a traditional resort and whether this new development could become one of South Africa’s most exciting family holiday destinations.
So grab a coffee, hide the credit card from your spouse and let’s take a closer look at everything we know so far about Club Med South Africa.
What Is Club Med South Africa?
Before we dive into water slides, beach views and all-inclusive cocktails (mocktails in my case), let’s quickly talk about what makes Club Med different.
Unlike a traditional hotel where you pay for your room and then spend the rest of your holiday signing receipts, Club Med operates on an all-inclusive model. Accommodation, meals, snacks, drinks, entertainment, activities and kids’ clubs are typically included in one upfront price.
For families, this can be a game changer. No daily debates about where to eat, no surprise bills at checkout and no children suddenly discovering a new expensive activity every five minutes. Everything is designed to make family holidays as seamless as possible.
Club Med South Africa will be the brand’s first resort in Southern Africa and forms part of Club Med’s global collection of family-focused resorts found across Europe, Asia, the Indian Ocean and the Americas.
The new resort is being developed on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast and will combine beachfront accommodation with a unique safari offering, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy both a coastal escape and a South African wildlife experience in one holiday.
If you’re wondering whether this sounds a little different to your typical beach resort, that’s because it is. Club Med isn’t simply selling accommodation. It’s selling an experience, one where the goal is to spend less time planning and more time making memories.
Where Is Club Med South Africa Located?
Club Med South Africa is located at Tinley Manor on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast, a stretch of coastline known for its warm weather, golden beaches and relaxed holiday atmosphere.
For many South Africans, the North Coast is already a favourite family holiday destination. Think long beach days, year-round sunshine, dolphin sightings and that unmistakable feeling that you’ve left everyday life behind, even if you’re only a few hours from home.
The resort is situated approximately 30 minutes from King Shaka International Airport, making it easily accessible for both local and international travellers. Whether you’re flying in from Cape Town, driving up from Johannesburg or planning a family getaway from elsewhere in South Africa, getting there should be relatively straightforward.
What makes the location particularly interesting is that guests won’t have to choose between a beach holiday and a bush experience. Club Med South Africa will offer access to both, combining a coastal resort stay with a dedicated safari component. For families wanting to tick “beach holiday” and “Big Five adventure” off the same wish list, that’s a pretty compelling combination.
As someone who spends a lot of time convincing my family that one more road trip is always a good idea, I can already see why this concept is generating so much excitement. Beaches, wildlife, family activities and one unpacking session? That sounds like a win to me.
What Can Families Expect at Club Med South Africa?
Family holidays are wonderful, but they’re even better when everyone in the family is having a good time.
From what has been released so far, Club Med South Africa appears to have been designed with exactly that in mind. The resort will offer a wide range of activities and facilities aimed at both children and adults, making it possible for everyone to enjoy their holiday in their own way.
For younger guests, dedicated kids’ clubs will provide age-appropriate activities, games and entertainment throughout the day. This means little adventurers can stay busy making friends and trying new experiences while parents enjoy some well-deserved downtime.
Older children and teenagers won’t be left out either. The resort is expected to offer a variety of sports, outdoor activities and entertainment options designed to keep even the most screen-obsessed family members occupied.
For adults, the appeal is equally strong. Think swimming pools, wellness experiences, beachfront relaxation, dining venues and a long list of activities that go beyond simply lying on a sun lounger all day. Although, if that’s your holiday style, we fully support it.
What really makes Club Med South Africa stand out, however, is the addition of a safari experience. A beach holiday is great. A safari is great. Combining the two into one trip? Now we’re talking.
While many resorts focus solely on sun, sea and swimming pools, Club Med South Africa aims to offer guests the opportunity to experience one of the things that makes South Africa so special: our wildlife. For many international visitors, a South African holiday isn’t complete without a safari, while local families know there is something magical about seeing animals through the eyes of your children.
Whether it’s spotting a giraffe for the first time, watching elephants cross the road, searching for lions or hearing excited whispers from the back seat every time someone spots movement in the bush, wildlife experiences create the kind of memories families talk about long after the holiday is over.
One of the biggest advantages of the Club Med concept is that so many activities are built into the overall experience. Instead of constantly reaching for your wallet every time someone wants to try something new, many activities are already included as part of the stay.
For families, this can take a lot of the stress out of holiday planning. Less budgeting on the go, fewer negotiations and more opportunities to focus on what really matters: spending quality time together and creating memories that will be talked about long after the suitcases have been unpacked.
And if you’re anything like our family, where one person wants adventure, one wants relaxation and one wants snacks every twenty minutes, having plenty of options available for everyone is a very good thing.
Accommodation at Club Med South Africa
When it comes to family holidays, the room is rarely the star of the show. The beach gets all the attention, the swimming pool becomes the children’s headquarters and somehow everyone ends up talking about the food on the drive home.
That said, where you stay still matters.
Club Med South Africa will offer a range of accommodation options designed for couples, families and larger groups travelling together. While full room details are still being released, the focus appears to be on creating comfortable spaces that fit seamlessly into the overall resort experience.
The reality is that most families don’t spend their holiday sitting in their room. They’re out exploring, swimming, eating, making memories and trying to squeeze just one more activity into the day before sunset. The room simply becomes the place where you recharge before doing it all again tomorrow.
For us, the biggest appeal isn’t necessarily the thread count or the minibar. It’s the fact that everything is designed to work together. Accommodation, activities, dining, beach time and even safari experiences all form part of one holiday story rather than a collection of separate bookings and plans.
We’ll have to wait until Club Med South Africa officially opens before we can share first-hand impressions, but from what has been released so far, the accommodation looks set to support exactly what the resort is aiming to deliver: a family holiday that’s easy, convenient and packed with experiences.

Dining & All-Inclusive Experiences
One of the biggest draws of Club Med has always been its all-inclusive concept.
For some travellers, that means unlimited holiday convenience. For parents, it means not hearing the phrase “Can I have a snack?” followed by a request for your bank card every twenty minutes.
Club Med resorts are known for including accommodation, meals, drinks and a wide range of activities within the cost of the stay. While the exact offerings for Club Med South Africa will become clearer once the resort opens, guests can expect a holiday experience designed to remove much of the planning and decision-making that often comes with travelling.
No searching for restaurants every evening.
No arguing over where to eat.
No trying to calculate whether everyone ordering dessert is still within the holiday budget.
Instead, the focus shifts to what holidays are supposed to be about: spending time together, trying new experiences and creating memories.
For families in particular, convenience can sometimes be the ultimate luxury. Knowing that meals, entertainment and activities are all within easy reach means less time managing logistics and more time enjoying the experience.
And while the kids are deciding which dessert to try next, parents can take comfort in knowing that at least one holiday expense has already been taken care of.
Why Club Med South Africa Is Generating So Much Excitement
South Africa is no stranger to beautiful resorts, family-friendly destinations or incredible wildlife experiences. So why has the opening of Club Med South Africa attracted so much attention?
The answer lies in the fact that it offers something a little different.
For decades, South Africans wanting to experience a Club Med holiday had to board an international flight. Now, for the first time, travellers will be able to experience the globally recognised brand without leaving the country.
It also arrives at a time when more families are looking for holidays that are easy to plan and offer something for everyone. Parents want to relax, children want to be entertained and teenagers would prefer not to spend an entire holiday hearing the words, “Put your phone away.”
Club Med South Africa aims to bring all of these elements together in a single destination. Beachfront accommodation, family activities, dining, entertainment and safari experiences all form part of one holiday experience.
For international visitors, it provides an opportunity to experience some of South Africa’s biggest attractions in one trip. For local travellers, it offers something equally appealing: the chance to enjoy a world-renowned holiday concept right here at home.
Perhaps that’s why so many people are curious about the resort. It isn’t just another hotel opening its doors. It’s a completely new holiday offering for South Africa, one that combines beach, bush and family travel into a single experience.
And if social media is anything to go by, there are already plenty of South Africans adding it to their travel wish lists.

Is Club Med South Africa Worth Considering for Families?
While we’ll have to wait until the resort officially opens before making any final judgments, what has been revealed so far is certainly promising.
From a family travel perspective, Club Med South Africa appears to tick many of the boxes parents are looking for when planning a holiday. A beachfront location, family-friendly activities, dedicated kids’ programmes, dining options and the addition of a safari experience all contribute to a holiday designed around shared experiences rather than simply a place to sleep.
One of the biggest challenges of family travel is finding a destination that keeps everyone happy. Parents want convenience, children want adventure and teenagers usually want good WiFi. Finding all three in one place can sometimes feel like searching for a leopard on a game drive.
What makes Club Med South Africa particularly interesting is that it seems to understand this balancing act. The resort is being positioned as a destination where different generations can enjoy the same holiday in different ways, while still creating shared memories together.
Of course, the real test will come once the first guests start arriving and sharing their experiences. We’ll certainly be keeping a close eye on the opening and hope to experience the resort for ourselves in the future.
For now, if you’re a family looking for a new holiday option that combines beach, adventure, relaxation and wildlife experiences, Club Med South Africa is definitely one to keep on your radar.
